2022 is Upon Us; What’s Your Plan?

As we approach the end of 2021 and the beginning of 2022, I cannot help but finding myself reviewing the year that has gone by (so fast) and thinking about what I want to do for the year ahead.

Are you doing the same?

If you have started your journey to becoming porn free, I hope you are thinking about small ways you can sure up those areas where you might have a little too much leeway, grow in your relationship with Jesus Christ, and focus on things that build you up versus tearing you down.

If you have not started your journey yet, I am hoping you consider 2022 as the year you make quitting porn a priority. Here are some ideas to get you going:

  1. Find someone you can share your story with. I know it may seem difficult to do but it is a good place to start to find freedom. Check out this post to help you think it through.
  2. Find a group of guys that will help you in your journey. Don’t skip this step – it is important to have folks around you who understand what you are going through and who will encourage you. Consider joining us here on Shackle Road (Shackle Road Membership is closed until further notice).
  3. Renew and capture your thoughts. This is feeding your mind, heart and soul with good things – things that excite you and bring life to your inward being. Capturing thoughts is interrupting thoughts that you do not want to have and replacing them with new thoughts. Maybe this post will help
  4. Break your habits – Habit hacking is the idea of doing things that either 1) convince you that you have completed some reward by executing the end routine – an example might be to get a plate, sit down at the table without eating and then get up rinse it off and stick it in the dishwasher. 2) upsetting your routines by doing non-sensical things in place of the normal routine – an example might be go to your bed, flap your arms, punch your bed 3 times, then stand in a victory stance and go eat a half of a cookie when your feeling tempted to masturbate or watch porn. The key here is to be emotional and a bit weird. I need to write a post on this.
  5. Be mindful of changes in your routines. We need to be more on guard when there are changes to our normal routines. This could be a business trip or get-togethers with family and friends; anything that prompts your mind to rely on its long established habits – help your mind by thinking these scenarios through.
  6. In all things – your success and your failures – submit it all to God and the story he is writing. For me, this has mad the biggest difference in my journey to victory over porn, masturbation and lust. Read about that here.
  7. Go and take the land! Now is the time brother – stop letting the enemy side-line you – God has work for you to do. Take a look at this devotional.

Anyway, I hope you will consider making 2022 the year you finally put porn to death in your life – you can do this brother! “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” – Philippians 4:13.

🎉 Happy New Year! 🎉
