Joshua Series – No. 3: Unbelief – Taking a step back

A devotional series on the Christian life, through the book of Joshua from the Old Testament, for guys struggling with porn addiction or habit.

Lets take a step back for a second.

The backstory

You may recall that we have been here before – standing on the precipice of taking this Promised land.

It was fourty years earlier. And sadly it ended if the children of Israel wandering the desert for that time.

Have you thought about why?

Yes  I guess you could say it was a punishment but in a sense it was more than that.

It was unbelief.

The children of Israel, most of them anyway, focus on the challenges around them.

The giants. I mean seriously God they’re big…

Instead of focusing on what God said he would do; what he has already declared, they focus on the giants and the problems and say, “We can’t do this?”

Not so dissimilar for us who struggle with porn

God calls out, “You’ve been set free!”

But we doubt.

We say, “I don’t know Lord this looks too hard. Maybe I’ll just be a door keeper in the kingdom.”

How sad for us who are called sons and daughters of the Most High to settle for table scraps.

While God says, “go in to possess the land, which the LORD your God giveth you to possess it.”

And in Romans 4:17, Paul reminds us of God relating to the faith of Abraham “Abraham, who is the father of us all (as it is written, “I have made you a father of many nations”) in the presence of Him whom he believed—God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did;”

In other words God calls the things that are NOT as though the were!

So here’s the deal

We need to stop focusing on the struggle.

Stop focusing on the giants!

Focus on being who God already called you – Free! Fogiven! Loved!

Learn more about that!

Grow in that!

And that will make you into the person God has already declared you to be.

Changing that belief will make all the difference!
