Pornography has gripped the hearts of men in the Church. It has ended marriages. Sent folks to prison – Yes. I am talking within the Church.
Worse yet, there are the many millions of born-again / evangelical Christians viewing porn every month, who silently try to stop watching it on their own, who fail repeatedly. Some struggle with Porn Induced Erectile Disfunction and others cannot even have sex with their wives without thinking of porn.
They deal with shame and depression and feel like they deserve nothing good or feel things go wrong in their lives because of their porn habit. And sadly, some have given up the fight altogether and do not believe they can ever be free.
Here is my problem: Did Christ NOT die and then rise from the dead to bring men freedom from sin? I am not talking about never sinning, but the bondage of sin.
And here is what I am asking: Do we NOT owe it to Christ, the Author and Finisher of our Faith, and to ourselves to do whatever it takes to BE FREE from porn?
I do NOT believe that we are designed to do this on our own!
Jesus set up his Church, the Body of Christ, to support and encourage one another.
For us who struggle with porn, I believe this requires men joining together to encourage, support and lift each other up, with the sole mission of putting to death lust, porn and masturbation once and for all.
“For the Law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus made me free from the law of sin and of death.”
Men! We must do this! For our families, our churches and the work that God has prepared for us to walk in! Porn is side-lining us and it is time for that to end.
I am in the progress of creating a community called “Shackle Road” (shackleroad.com / member.shackleroad.com) – dedicated to helping Christian men find freedom from porn and masturbation.
I have four main goals for the members of the Shackle Road community:
- Experiment
- Make progress, regardless of how small
- Offer clarity
- And have FUN
And again, I am not saying I have all the answers, but I believe that the freedom Christ procured on our behalf is ours to take. Just like the Israelites were given the Promise Land and then were sent in to conquer it, so we must conquer and put to death porn in our lives.
Finally to answer the question, “So why do you call it Shackle Road?” – Shackle Road represents where you are now. No one tries to break free from porn on the happy path. It is here on Shackle Road, amid your struggles, that you must make your choice to leave porn behind and choose another path.
Will you join me in this fight!?
